With a recent declaration of Terhathum and Sankhuwasabha districts as vet Diclofenac free district by the government authority and stakeholders, seventy districts have been declared as vet Diclofenac Free District in Nepal. The declaration programs were jointly organized by veterinary hospital and livestock service expert center Terhathum and Sankhuwasabha districts in collaboration with Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) on 27thand 30th May 2019 respectively.
Terhathum District : The program was successfully completed in the presence of chief district officer- Laxmi Devi Humagain, Local coordination officer- Gokul Khadka, Chief administrative officer, Myanlung Municipality– Ram Prasad Wagle, Acting forest officer, Division forest office – Narayan Shah, Dr. Dev Kumar Darlami, Veterinary hospital and livestock service expert center, FECOFUN board member–Mahendra Kumar Lamichhane, Inspector (District Police Office) –Tej Bahadur Dahal, DSP ( Armed police force )-Rosan Ghimire, Vice present , NGO federation –Renuka Bhattrai, President, Federation of Nepal Journalist–Naresh Dhungana, Veterinary hospital staffs, veterinary technicians/practitioners, agro-vet shop’s proprietor, Farmers and different Journalists representatives were actively participated in the program. The program was chaired by Laxmi Devi Humagain, chief district officer and chief guest was Gokul Khadka Local coordination officer. The program chairperson formally declared Terhathum district as 69th vet diclofenac free district by speech and singing on the declaration banner then other guests /participants signed on it. This district has covered 679 Sq. km area of Nepal.
Sankhuwasabha District: The program was successfully completed in the presence of chief district coordination committee–Suman Shakya, Mayor, Khandbari municipality– Murari Prasad Khatiwada, Chief district officer– Jiwan Prasad Dulal, Ranger, Makalu Barun National Park- Kamal Kafle, Acting forest officer, Division forest office- Nabin Raj Dahal, Agriculture knowledge center– Bhuwan Singh Budhathoki, Dr. Hari Narayan Yadav, Veterinary hospital, Inspector (District police office)– Santosh Kumar Rai, Major (Barahdal, Nepal army) – Sagar Karki, Investigation officer, National investigation commission) – Ramesh Adhikari, Health officer , Health office– Kapleshwar prasad shah, chief of unit education development coordination unit– Keshab Bhattrai, Inspector (APF)–Dev Ram Rai, Journalists, Veterinary hospital’s staffs, veterinary practitioners, Agro vet shop’s proprietor and Farmers were actively participated in the program. The program was chaired by Suman Shakya chief of district coordination committee, chief gust was Murari Prasad Khatiwada mayor of khandbari municipality and distinction guest was Jiwan Dulal chief of district officer. The program chairperson formally declared to Sankhuwasabha district as 70th vet diclofenac free district by speech and singing on the declaration banner then other guests /participants signed on it. This district has covered 3480 Sq. km area of Nepal.
In the both events Bhupal Nepali, Project Officer at Bird Conservation presented the history of vulture conservation dealings in South Asia, vulture and its ecological importance, status and implementation of conservation activities in Nepal. Dr. Dev Kumar Darlami of veterinary hospital and livestock service expert center Terhathum and Dr. Narayan Yadav of veterinary hospital and livestock service expert center Sankhuwasabha were presented about district’s Diclofenac and other NSAIDs situation, it’s monitoring and diclofenac effect on vulture. Jatayu Research Grantee Pramisha Karki who was studying about vulture in sankhuwasabha also presented the status, distribution and threats in vulture in the district.
Before the declaration district veterinary hospital and livestock service expert center and BCN undertook the pharmacy survey and monitoring in the districts. After the no record of Diclofenac in the respective district declare as Diclofenac free district. These events play the crucial role on the stakeholder awareness for the conservation of vulture conservation.
