National Workshop On Bengal Florican Conservation In Nepal

Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) supported to Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) to organise a national workshop on “Bengal Florican conservation in Nepal” at Sauraha, Chitwan on 26 March 2015. Total 58 participants representing, DNPWC, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Chitwan National Park (CNP),  Bardia National Park, Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, BCN,  International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), Biodiversity Conservation Centre (BCC), WWF Nepal-TAL, Bird Education Society, Bardia Nature Club, Nature Guide Association Suklaphanta and Buffer Zone Council of CNP were present on that workshop.

Kamal Jung Kunwar, Chief Warden, CNP chaired the workshop and Dr. Yam Malla, Country Representative, IUCN was chief guest. Gopal Prakash Bhattarai, Ecologist welcomed the participants and Prof. Karan Bahadur shah delivered a key note speech.

Jyotedra Thakuri, Dr. Narendra Man Babu Pradhan, Nurendra Aryal and Dr. Jhamak Karki presented on status of Bengal Florican in Nepal, monitoring of Bengal Florican in Nepal, proposed research on grassland monitoring and overview of status of terai grassland and research need. Participants took active participation of discussion and way forward after each presentation.

Dr. Yam Malla, delivered a speech about the workshop, Tulsi Ram Sharma, Planning Officer at DNPWC thanked all participants and chairman, Kamal Jung Kunwar closed the workshop with feedback. After technical session field visit was organised to Sukhibhar grassland.
