With an objective to raise awareness on wetlands conservation Department of National park and Wildlife conservation celebrated 22nd World Wetlands Day on 2nd February with slogan “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future” at DNPWC, Babarmahal.
The chief guest of programme, honorable Forest and Soil Conservation minister Mr. Bikram Pandey unveiled the hoarding board of world wetland day kept inside department of forest. The operational plan for crocodile conservation and book of early stage of conservation in Nepal written by Mr. Bishwanath Upreti, ex-Director General of Department of National park and Wildlife Conservation, was launched by the chief guest. The student of Ambition academy presented play based on conserving wetland as well as senior singer Mrs. Lochan Bhattarai sang awareness related nature conservation song. Prize money and certificate were distributed to the student placed first, second and third in essay competition organized by interschool on the occasion of world wetland day. Carol Inskipp, Author of Birds of Nepal was awarded for her contribution for conservation of birds in Nepal since last four decades. Around 150 participants were present representing from different governmental and non-governmental organization, academic institution and media.
Chief guest minister Mr. Bikram Pandey, Special Guest honorable Forest and Soil Conservation state minister Mrs. Kamala Devi Sharma, Dr. Yuvak Dwaj GC, Secretary, Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Chairperson of programme and Director General of Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation Mr. Man Bahadur Khadka presented their thoughts keeping the theme for sustainable wetland conservation in Nepal. World Wetlands Day is an annual event organized by DNPWC conservation consortium partners BCN, Hariyo Ban Program, IUCN, WWF, NTNC, ZSL and others.
Similarly, BCN also lead a bird watching event at Taudaha Lake, organized by Department of National Parks & Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) with conservation consortium partners as one of the prior events to celebrate “world Wetlands Day on 27 December 2018. Mr. Arend van Riessen delivered a presentation on status of Water birds around Taudaha area since 2003 -2016 and Ramesh Chaudhary was the leader for the bird watching event. Altogether crowd of around 50 took part at the event.
