Bird Conservation Nepal organised National Important Bird and
Biodiversity (IBA) Monitoring Training Workshop from 3-5 March 2014 at Sauraha,
Chitwan. Representatives from more than 20 IBAs participated in the training.
The main objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge of IBA site
representatives on Birdlife IBA monitoring technique and to develop National
IBA monitoring programme.
Chief guest of the programme, Mr Kamal Jung Kunwar (Chief
Warden, Chitwan National Park) emphasized on the importance of birds as an
indicator of environment health and monitoring of birds will not only provide
the state of IBAs but also inform about the overall biodiversity status of the
site.
National IBA Coordinator, Ishana Thapa from BCN highlighted
on importance of the training in capacity building of the IBA site representatives
in order to develop and manage sustainable IBA monitoring programme. She also mentioned that the trained IBA site
representatives will certainly help in generating novel data to contribute
towards future national and global analysis of IBA status report.
