Stakeholder awareness and interaction workshop was organized
on 18 April 2014 at Khalanga, Jajarkot where globally threatened Red-headed
vulture nest was found recently. The programme was organized by District
Livestock Service Office Jajarkot and Barekot yekikrit paryabaran samiti,
Jajarkot. Krishna Bhusal, Field Biologist of BCN presented the brief history of
vulture conservation in South Asia and findings of vulture status in Jajarkot.
The finding of new nest of red headed vulture was also shared. Chief District
Officer, Assistant Local Development Officer and Assistant District Livestock
Service Officer, officials from District Police Office, District Forest Office,
FECOFUN, MSFP, political party leaders, local NGOs and journalist were present
in the workshop. Altogether 107 participants participated in the interaction
workshop. A task force committee was also formed to prepare a detail plan to
conserve vultures, threatened wildlife and biodiversity of the area. Some fund
was also requested from VDC to monitor and safe guard the Red-headed vulture
nest. MSFP also showed interest be involved in vulture conservation programme
in that area as a part to support in income generation activities for
community.
