Department of National Parks and Wildlife
Conservation (DNPWC) and Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) jointly organized the
National workshop on Bengal Florican ConservationAction Plan on 29 Feb 2016 at
Malla Hotel, Lainchaur, Kathmandu. Altogether 28 people participated in the
program representing from DNPWC, BCN, Ministry of Forestry and Soil
Conservation, Department of Forests, Chitwan National Park, Koshi Tappu
Wildlife Reserve, District Forest Office, Sunsari and Chitwan, WCT, NEFEJ,
Royal Society for Protection of Birds, BirdLife Asia, and Zoological Society of
London-Nepal Office. The program was chaired by Mr. Fanindra Raj Kharel,
Director General, DNPWC.
Hem Bahadur Katuwal (BCN) and Dr. Paul Donald
(RSPB) jointly presented on the Bengal Florican in Nepal where they discussed
about the status, population history, threats to the Bengal Florican. Similarly
the studies on grassland monitoring and tagging of Bengal Florican and
potential habitat mapping through Maxent modeling were also discussed during
the talk.
Jyotendra Jyu Thakuri presented the action
plan draft for the discussion. He highlighted the need for the preparation of
action plan in Nepal.
