Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) and Ranibari Community Forest
User Groups (RBCFUG) with the support of Birdlife International Tokyo jointly
organized inception meeting for the project ‘Ranibari Community Forest: Bird
and Biodiversity Conservation Learning Centre at Kathmandu valley” on 30
September 2016 at Ranibari Community Forest, Lazimpat-3, Kathmandu. The main
objective of the Ranibari project is to conserve the urban biodiversity by
managing the Ranibari Community Forest as a model forest for bird and
biodiversity conservation learning center. Thus inception meeting was organized
to disseminate about the project objectives, discuss and collect the views of
the partners, donors and stakeholders and way forward for project
implementation.
Altogether there were 23 participants representing from
Department of Forest-Community Forest Division, Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN),
Kathmandu District Forest Office (KDFO), BirdLife International (BLI), and
Ranibari Community Forest User Groups (RBCFUG) as well as from media: Rastriya
Samachar Samitee and NEFEJ. Shantosh Bickram Shah, president of RBCFUG, chaired
the program while Dr. Anju Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General, Community
Forest Division, Department of Forest was a Chief Guest. After the introduction
of the participants, Prakash Man Shakya, Vice president of RBCFUG gave welcome
speech and highlighted the objective of organizing the inception meeting.
Narendra Man Babu Pradhan, BCN presented about short history
of Bird Conservation of Nepal and its activities. Also he explained about the
objectives of Ranibari project and presented major activities of the project
which will be carried out this year and highlighted the need of inception
meeting.
