Gorkha district has been declared as
diclofenac free Zone on July 2, 2012. In a program organized by District
Livestock Service Office, Goirkha, supported and facilitated by Bird
Conservation Nepal, stakeholders from all local government authorities, NGOs
and media came to declared Gorkha district as Dicfenac Free Zone. Mr Jiblal
Lamshal, Chief of District Livestock Service Office, mentioned that District
Livestock Service Office has found no diclofenac in vet pharmacies in several
survey conducted by BCN and DSLO-Gorkha. “District Livestock Service Office has
regular monitoring of drugs in all pharmacies of district and we didn’t find
any diclofenac in our pharmacies”, said Dr. Rupesh Shrestha (Vet Officer of
DLSO Gorkha).Mr. Kamal Pd Bhattarai, Chief District Officer of Gorkha District,
highlighted the role of vultures in cleaning our environment. He read out DFZ
declaration document and appealed with all stakeholders to show their
solidarity in vulture conservation. The program convened al together 40
individuals from District Livestock Service Office, District Forest Office,
District Police Office, District Development Office, District Agriculture
Office, District Para-vet and Livestock Association, District Drug Trader
Association and several Agro vets. This declaration makes Diclofenac Free Zone
twentieth and a total area of 37813 Sq Km.
