World Migratory bird day launched in 2006 is
an annually celebrated awareness raising campaign aiming to inspire the
worldwide conservation of both migratory birds and their environments. This
year’s theme “Networking for migratory birds” highlights the need to cooperate
and network amongst organizations and people to conserve migratory birds.
Collective conservation actions by governments, nature conservation
organizations, scientists and general public are needed to ensure the survival
of these migratory birds.
BCN organized Bird Race to celebrate the World
Migratory bird day 2013 at Godawari. Forty five participants actively
participated in the event. The winning teams were provided Birds of Nepal (A
field guide in Nepali) and birdwatching hats. Posters and stickers of world
migratory bird day were also distributed. There were 49 species of birds
recorded on that day. Few migratory
birds, Asian Koel, Crested serpent eagle, Blue throated Flycatcher, Eurasian
cuckoo, Oriental cuckoo, Verditer Flycatcher and chestnut tail starling were
also recorded. The event was filmed by NEFEEJ.
Bird Race was also organized at Banplae
forest, Institute of Forestry Pokhara.
Approximately 70 peoples were present there on the bird race with 40
participants. The participants were from students from Institute of Forestry,
Pokhara, teachers, bird guides and members of Himalayan Daughters’ Bird Club
Pokhara.
The prize distribution ceremony was chaired by
Mr. Sonam Tashi Lama, Coordinator of BCN Pokhara Chapter.Mr. Hari K.C gave a
brief account about the importance of migratory birds. The Dean of IOF Mr.
Chirnajivi Prasad Upadhaya and for Campus Chief Mr. Binod Heyjoo was present on
the program as chief and special guest. The prize to the first, second and
third was distributed by the Dean.
