One day vulture conservation awareness
programme was conducted at Dumkibas, Nawalparasi on 5thJune 2013. The programme
was organised by Sundari Community Forest, Amarapuri, Nawalparasi with a
support from Bird Conservation Nepal. Representatives from Community Forest
User Committees, veterinary practitioners, veterinary pharmacy owners, media
persons and local conservation clubs of
Nawalparasi district attended the programme.
The programme was chaired by Thakur Prasad
Pandey, President of Sundari Community Forest User Committee and Mohan Raj
Kaphle, Assistant Forest Officer at District Forest Office; Nawalparasi was
Chief Guest for the programme. Krishna Prasad Bhusal, Field Biologist at Bird
Conservation Nepal presented the history and recent scenario of vulture
conservation in Nepal and explained the role of community people and community
forests in conserving these critically endangered birds.
In the programme, 11 members district
committee of VCMN was also formed on the chairmanship of Thakur Prasad Pandey.
Different persons from Community Forest User Commitees, local conservation
groups and vet practitioners joined the network with an aim of vulture
conservation in district.
