BCN celebrated World Environment Day 2013
jointly with Central Zoo – National Trust for Nature Conservation, IUCN, WWF
and Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan city on 5 June at Jawalakhel. This year’s world
environment day was celebrated with the theme “Think.Eat.Save", More than
two thousand students from various schools, representatives of government and
non-government organizations and media persons participated in the event. A
rally was also organized in the street of Lalitpur to spread the awareness message
in accordance to the world theme of food security. After the rally the program
was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister of Forest and Soil
Conservation Mr. Tek Bahadur Thapa Gharti, The informative poster on Tree Fern
of IUCN Nepal, vulture poster published by BCN and Himalayan Nature was
released by the
Honorable minister.
BCN felicitated four individuals for their
contribution in bird conservation activities. Appreciation certificate were
awarded by Honorable Minister to Bird Expert, Mr. Bardri Chaudhary for
identifying many new bird species to Nepal and upcoming journalist, Ms. Anjali
Subedi for covering the news of birds and biodiversity. Likewise Mr. Seejan
Gnawali was awarded as best volunteer for contributing in BCN activities and Mr.
Vimal Thapa for his long term contribution in leading Birdwatching events. BCN
publications, posters, leaflets and, newsletters were also distributed to the
participants.
