In a bid to stop the dramatically declining
numbers of vultures in Nepal, District level coordination meeting has been
completed in district head quarter Gothalapani, Baitadi on 14th June 2013. This program was jointly organized by
District Forest Office (DFO), District Livestock Service Office (DLSO) from
Baitadi and Bird conservation Nepal (BCN). Stakeholders from all district
government authorities, NGOs, CBOs and media represented the coordination
meeting. Hari Raj Bista (Assistant Chief District Officer), Ram Data Pandey
(Local Development Officer), Krishna Prasad Dhakal (District Forest Officer),
Mohan Dev Bhatta (Chief- DLSO) from Baitadi and Bhupal Nepali, Field Officer at
Bird Conservation Nepal presented on importance of vultures, need of creating
Vulture Safe Zone, stopping illegal use of diclofenac in the district and
requested all stakeholders to show their solidarity in vulture conservation. 36
participants representing district level authorities, NGOs/CBOs and media of
Baitadi district used the opportunity to discuss on issues of vulture decline,
managing habitat for vultures locally and stopping the illegal use of
diclofenac in Baitadi.
