Training On Bird-Watching Tourism, Ghachowk

The program was facilitated by Vulture Conservation Management Committee, Ghachowk , Kaski and supported by Bird Conservation Nepal. The program was run on the chairmanship of Kranti Raman Pokharel, Community Service Officer, Ghachowk, Kaski and conducted by Dambar Bahadur Mahato, Vice- Co ordinator, BCN, Pokhara Branch. Resource persons in the training were Mr. Hari KC, Bird Expert and Hari Pariyar, Nature Guide and Bird Expert at Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge.        

Mr. Hari KC taught the general techniques how to recognize the birds from their shape, size and body parts and explained the scope of the bird tourism. He also shared his experience how he became a bird expert.Mr. Hari Pariyar described the possible attractions and amenities which attract. He explained briefly about the scenic beauty and landscapes of the Ghachowk and how the local people can take part in tourism development activities and attract national and tourists international tourists. He also mentioned about plants and butterfly found in the locality and advised local youth to become a part of this as a bird expert and nature guide. Participants in the training program were local home stay owner and youths of Ghachowk, Lachowk and Machhapuchhre Village Development Committee. Altogether 31 participants used the opportunity to discuss on nature, birding and the bird watching tourism.

After the training, a short field trip in and around Ghachowk was organized to practice bird identification. Bird experts taught and trained the participants on the techniques of bird watching and to use binoculars, field guides and note books to watch and record the bird.
