One day trans boundary meeting held on the vulture conservation issues among Nepalese and Indian delegates in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur on 26 February 2016. To support cross-border campaign of vulture conservation Bird Conservation Nepal organized the trans boundary level meeting with a support of USAID funded Hariyo Ban Programme. The Indo-Nepal border areas are a natural habitat of vultures where dense colony of vulture located. Khadananda Paudel on be half of Bird Conservation Nepal presented the scenario and status of vulture, conservation approach, community role in conservation and concept of Provisional Vulture Safe Zone in Nepal. He also highlighted the need of trans boundary approach to conserve vultures. Bed Kumar Dhakal, Chief Conservation Officer of Shukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve presented the government collaboration and trans boundary approach for wild life conservation. Dr. Mudit Gupta, WWF, India, Dr. Vijay Prakash Singh, Terai Nature Conservation Society and Fazlur Rahaman, Katarniyaghat Wildlife Foundation share their working experience and highlighted the need of trans boundary approach on vulture conservation. Vulture conservationists from India and Nepal have come together to make the border area between the two countries a Diclofenac free zone in order to save endangered species of vultures. In the program participated Shiva Prasad Sharma, Chief, District Forest Office, Kanchanpur, Dr. Madan Singh Dhami, Chief, District Livestock Service Office, Kanchanpur, Bhawani Datta Joshi, Officer, District Public Health Office, Kanchanpur, Bhaskar Bhattarai, WWF, Nepal, Racchya Shaha, IUCN, Nepal and representative from NTNC Shuklaphanta, ZSL Nepal, Nature Guide Association, Kanchanpur, Vulture Safe Feeding Site, Khutiya, Kailali and Dolphin Conservation Center, Kailali.

Sharing national context of vulture conservation in Nepal and India.

Incorporation of vulture issues in local level trans boundary meeting agendas.

Identify the common issues of vulture conservation in Nepal and India.

The major decisions and way forward of meeting were:

Share the agenda and decision taken in this meeting with their relevant government agencies and organization.

Initiate ensuring and declaration of Diclofenac Free Zone program in Indian part also.

Lobby the government to check easy availability of multi dose vial (30ml) of diclofenac on human treatment.
