Bird Conservation Nepal along with other partner
organizations including NTNC, WWF-Nepal, IUCN and Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan
City Office celebrated World Environment Day 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The
program was celebrated under the theme "Go Wild For Life".
Honorable Rt. Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation
Nepal, Agni Prasad Sapkota was the chief guest of the program. It started with
a rally, led by beautifully decorated walking elephant, trailed by queue of
young students with banners and pamphlets advocating the importance of
environment protection. Under the presence of Miss Nepal World, Miss Nepal
Earth and Miss Nepal International along with the crowd, joint mass oath-taking
was conducted where the gathered people vowed to save environment.
During the event Bird Conservation Nepal launched its
recently published book ???????? ???????????: ?????? ?????? ??? ??? ????????
???????????. The book is written by Mr. Ramdev Pandey and its imagery part was
designed by Mr. Rajkumar Prajapati. The objective of this book is to create
awareness among young children through its artistic way of telling stories
using pictures. Similarly, BCN and ICIMOD jointly honored Dumrithumka Adarsha
Mahila Community Forest User Group for their outstanding work on livelihood
improvement and ecosystem management within that community forest.
Various other activities were organized prior to the event
which included inter-school dance competition, report writing, debate and
banner designing competition. The winners were awarded through this event and
Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Honorable Rt. Agni Prasad Sapkota did
the honor. At the end Mr. Sapkota, in his speech, stressed about the needs and
importance of celebrating World Environment Day and its urge to educate young
children for future's betterment.
The event was facilitated by National Trust for Nature
Conservation's (NTNC) Central Zoo. Wide participation was observed during the
event and the participants included representatives from various government as
well as non-government organizations including hundreds of students
representing more than 30 schools.
