Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) and Ranibari Community Forest User Groups (RCFUGs) signed Memorandum of
Understanding on establishing Ranibari Community Forest as Birds &
Biodiversity Conservation Learning Center on 29th of August 2016. Putting pen
to paper were Narendra Man Bahadur Pradhan, for BCN and Shantosh Birkram Shah
for Ranibari Community Forest in presence of PhD Indra Prasad Sapkota, District
Forest Officer of District Forest Office.
Main objective is to conserve the urban
biodiversity managing the Ranibari Community Forest as also a model forest for
bird and biodiversity conservation learning center. The specific objectives are
as below:
• To increase the level of knowledge of local
people on bird, biodiversity and green environment conservation at Ranibari
Community Forest.
• To analyze how human influx and vegetation
affects the distribution of birds in the urban gradients
• To strengthen bird, biodiversity and nature
conservation education in schools and colleges.
• To encourage the general public and policy
makers to promote bird habitat in urban areas.
"It is a great
initiation in spreading awareness of birds that nests in Kathmandu Valley. The
Research & Learning Center will
provide information on status of urban, migrated birds to people from different
sectors." said Narendra Man Bahadur Pradhan, CEO of BCN .
"BCN and RFCUGs
plan to work for next five years together and I hope that
our Research & Learning Center will be of great benefit and we both work
together for longer periods." said Shantosh Bikram Shah, President of RFCUGs. The program is funded by Bird Life
International, Tokyo.
