24 LCGs representatives from 17 districts took part in two days long “Vulture conservation and Vulture Safe Zone management” organized by Bird Conservation Nepal from 4-5 January 2018 at Amaltari Nawalparasi. The
event was chaired by D.B. Chaudhary, Coordinator of Jatayu Restaurant Pithauli
and Deputy Mayor Prem Shankar Mardania Mahato was the chief guest. It is an annual event designed to enhance the
capacity field based vulture conservation partners, caretaker of vulture safe
feeding sites and nest monitoring youth.
The first day began with inauguration from the chief guest
Mardania followed by short remarks from the representatives of Buffer zone
community forest of Chitwan National Park, APAK, Amaltari. and different local and national media house
. Guest speakers highly appreciated the
progressive efforts and enthusiastic local participation for vulture
conservation. The training session included two presentations from Krishna
Bhusal, Vulture Conservation program officer on more than decade long vulture
conservation efforts and success of recently done Soft and Wild release vulture
and Introduction of BCN and its organizational strategy by NirajDahal,
Communication and Marketing Officer. The second session included presentation
from LCGs representatives on annual progress made on vulture conservation
On the second day participants visited the Learning Center
at vulture safe feeding site at Pithauli.
More than 100 vultures of 4 different species came to feed on the
carcass at the feeding site.
Participants also learned about nest monitoring, vulture identification,
successful efforts on soft and wild release in 2017.
