The 29th Annual General Meeting of Bird Conservation Nepal (BirdLife International in Nepal) concluded on 21 January 2012 with a new vision and mandate to conserve birds and biodiversity in Nepal.  The progress and achievements as well as the new plans and programmes were discussed among the members during the meeting.  The meeting also stressed to focus on climate change resilience and adaptation programmes because birds are important indicators for environmental change.

“There is a need for innovative plans and programmes for the wellbeing of the birds and human beings” said Hari Saran Nepali “Kazi”, Chief Guest and Founder President of Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN).  It is important to work together, and coordination as well as cooperation among the members is vital to safeguard the interest of BCN.

“BCN is a well established conservation agency in Nepal with a strong support from international conservation community such as the BirdLife International and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds”, said Shree Ram Subedi, President of BCN.  It has been working with conservation partners and playing significant roles in birds and biodiversity conservation in Nepal.

The Annual General meeting also unanimously elected new Executive Council for 2012-2014. The new Executive Council consisted of Sarbendra Pachhai (President), Krishna Tamrakar (Vice President), Bhesh Raj Ghimire (General Secretary), Rajendra Gurung (Joint Secretary), Yubraj Basnet (Treasurer) and Shree Ram Subedi, Dipak Raj Joshi, Sushila C. Nepali, Abha Rani Mishra, Ashok B. Malla and Sarita Jnawali as members.
