Gulmi district has been declared as diclofenac
free Zone on April 8, 2012. In a program organized by District Livestock
Service Office, Gulmi, supported by Bird Conservation Nepal, stakeholders from
all local government authorities, NGOs and media declared Gulmi district as
Dicfenac Free Zone. Dr Hari Bahadur Kunwar, Chief of District Livestock Service
Office, pointed zero prevalence of diclofenac in vet pharmacies as a ground on
which Gulmi declared diclofenac free. District Livestock Service Office has
regular monitoring of drugs in all pharmacies of district. Mr. Kabindra Nepal, Chief District Officer of
Gulmi District, chaired the program and highlighted the role of vultures in
cleaning our environment. He also appealed with all stakeholders to show their
solidarity in vulture conservation. The program convened al together 42
individuals from District Livestock Service Office, District Forest Office,
District Development Office, District Agriculture Office, District Para-vet and
Livestock Association, District Drug Trader Association, Reshunga Conservation
Committee and several Agrovets. This declaration makes Diclofenac Free Zone
seventeenth and a total area of 31,493 Sq Km in Nepal.
