Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), the
BirdLife Partner in Nepal, seeks applications from qualified Nepali candidates
for the following full-time position.

Major
roles and responsibilities
Senior Research Officer is responsible for
building strong scientific foundation of BCN through developing research
program and projects on threatened bird species and Important Bird and
Biodiversity Areas. The key role is to lead in developing scientific reports
and peer reviewed journal articles based on research work. He/She is also responsible
to maintain and update research database.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Program Planning and Development
1.1.
Prepare annual work plans and any other
necessary documents related to program and plans on research on birds and its
habitat conservation.
1.2.
Assist in the planning and developing
proposals on birds and its habitat research and conservation issues.
1.3.
Assist in coordinating IBAs program research
and document update.
1.4.
Provides and assists the Program
Manager in technical inputs for research planning to BCN supported
projects.
1.5.
Assist BCN expert team in managing
research program on birds and biodiversity.
1.6.
Ensure the visibility of project action
through publications in newsletters and peer reviewed journals.
1.7.
Develop research and conservation
materials, tools and conduct outreach program for wider public awareness.
2. Implementation & monitoring
2.1.
Conduct scientific research on
ornithology, IBA and Central Asian Flyway.
2.2.
Facilitate IBA monitoring data collection
& Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) annually.
2.3.
Conduct bird watching training for BCN
members, organization and interested people.
2.4.
Maintain a quick and prompt mechanism
to respond quires regarding birds’ ecology and its habitat conservation
efforts.

Database management
3.1 Establish
and maintain an up-to-date database on BCN research work.
3.2
Assist in updating the IBA data of
Nepal in the World Bird Database.
3.3 Synthesize
and analyze monitoring data from field research projects to measure BCN’s
progress, contribution and impacts against the various Global and Asia Pacific,
Program/Project targets and milestones.

Reporting
4.1 Ensure
timely reporting of monitoring activities to donors and projects.
4.2 Compilation
and documentation of photographs related to birds and biodiversity.
4.3 Publish and disseminate research outcomes
through various national and international journals and leading national and
international print media.
4.4 Provide
monthly report to supervisor on monitoring and database activities
5
Coordination
5.1
Coordinates with government line
agencies for effective implementation of research program/project monitoring
framework of BCN’s research projects.
5.2
Coordinate with different in country
donor organizations, INGOs and NGOs on research programmatic monitoring related
issues.
5.3
Performs other duties as assigned by
the supervisor and plays an active role in successful implementation,
monitoring and evaluation of BCN’s research program/projects
Requirements:
·
Technically proficient and qualified in
the field of ornithology.
·
At least 3 years of previous experience
in ornithology and should have extensive experience carrying out qualitative
and quantitative research.
·
Advanced knowledge and skills in the
latest statistical packages and GIS utilities.
·
Demonstrated experience publishing
peer-reviewed publications with at least 3 scientific publications in the field
of ornithology.
Education:
·
Masters in Zoology, Forestry, Wildlife
Management and Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Science, Natural
Resource Management and relevant field.
