Ministry of Forest and Environment in collaboration with
DNPWC, DoF, DFRS, DPR, DSWM, USAID, BCN, WWF, NTNC, ZSL, SMCRF, and IUCN
celebrated international biodiversity day on 22nd May at NTNC, Khumaltar to
mark the 25th anniversary of the International Convention on Biological
Diversity; Safeguarding life on Earth and to highlight progress made in the
achievement of its objectives at the national levels. Mr. Shakti Bahadur
Basnet, Honorable Minister of Forest and Environment was the chief guest for
the occasion. The session was chaired by Dr. Bishwanath Oli, Ministry of Forest
and Environment where as honorable Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, National Planning
Commission and Dr. Yubak Dhoj GC was guest of the programme.
During the event Dr. Maheswar Dhakal, Chief, Environment and
biodiversity division presented the major achievements of NBSAP: Gaps,
Challenges and Opportunities. Similarly,
books titled ‘25 Years of Achievement on Biodiversity Conservation in
Nepal’, ‘Photo book on biodiversity’,
‘Ramsar Strategic Plan ‘(2018-2024), ‘Wildlife Stockpiles Management
Report’, were launched. The video in
relation to fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising which in turn
contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity was also
displayed.
Chief guest honorable minister Mr. Shakti Bahadur Basnet,
Ministry of Forest and Environment; Dr. Bishwanath Oli, Secretary, Ministry of
Forest and Environment; Dr. Yubak Dhoj GC, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture,
Land Management and Cooperatives ; National Planning Commission expressed their
thoughts forwarding way for biodiversity conservation.
