
Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) celebrated its 43rd
annual general meeting (AGM) successfully on 27th December 2025 at Parelee
Caters Pvt. Ltd, Baluwatar, Kathmandu. The event, chaired by Mr. Vimal Kumar
Thapa, President of BCN Executive Council, hosted Mr. Buddhi Sagar Paudel,
Director General of Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation as
chief guest of the event. Other guests who graced the event include Dr.
Narendra Man Babu Pradhan, Country Representative IUCN Nepal and Dr. Ghana
Shyam Gurung, Country Representative WWF Nepal. The event was enriched by the
participation of valuable advisors, patron members, executive council members,
life members, general members, student members, and media personnel.
The event awarded Nepal Bird Conservation Network (NBCN)
Grant worth NRs. 1 Lakh to two LCG groups: Green Youth Lumbini, Rupandehi and Naudhara
Community Forest User Committee for their significant contribution in bird and
biodiversity conservation. Likewise, Jatayu Research Scholarship worth NRs. 50,000
was awarded to two university students Ms. Shristi Kafle and Mr. Rohan Tuladhar
to assist their research in vultures. The event also honored the people who
recorded species new for Nepal in the past one year: Purple-rumped Sunbird (Devendra
Kumar Kharel), Violet Cuckoo (Rajendra Gurung and Anish Timsina), Short-tailed
Shearwater (Anish Timsina), Malabar Whistling-thrush (Deu Bahadur Rana and Amrit
Nepali) and Red-necked Grebe (Susmita Chaudhary, Sugam Guragain). During the
event, Mr. Sujan Kumar Shrestha was also honored with honorable patron member.
The session began with presentation on ornithological research
and conservation by Mr. Kiran Gosai, Senior Research Officer, followed by BCN's
annual progress report from Ms. Ishana Thapa, Chief Executive Officer of BCN and
BCN's annual financial report from Ms. Pratikchha Srivastava, Finance and Admin
Head of BCN. The queries on various issues raised by participants were
addressed by Ms. Ishana Thapa, CEO of BCN and Mr. Vimal Kumar Thapa, President,
BCN Executive Council.
In the closing remarks, the president of Executive Council
Mr. Thapa urged all the bird lovers, researchers and conservationists to keep
continuing the journey towards birds and biodiversity conservation and
supporting BCN in the coming days also. He also expressed his and BCN's
gratitude towards all the guests, participants, members and well-wishers.
