VULTURE CONSERVATION AND SENSITIZATION PROGRAM AT DEUKHURI GADAWA DANG

Vulture conservation and sensitization training program to village animal health workers was successfully conducted at boarder area Deukhuri Gadawa Dang on 11 December 2015. This program was jointly organized by District livestock service office (DLSO) and Environmental sustainable development & research center (ESDRC) Dang , in the technical and financial support of Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN).  All together 38 (26 unregistered /VAHW, 5 DLSO staffs, 2 Journalists, 3 ESDRC representatives and 2 local stakeholders) people were participated in the program.

Bhupal Nepali, the field officer from BCN presented about vulture, its ecological important roles, vulture decline causes, need of vulture safe zone, illegal use & legal provision on band diclofenac and BCN efforts for vulture conservation in Nepal.

Dr. Ramesh Prasad Nepali from district livestock service office dang presented on vulture killer medicine Diclofenac, safety Meloxicam and need to vulture safety food management.Meloxicam (30 vials /100 ml) was distributed free of cost to unregistered vet practitioners for motivation use of safety drugs.


Output of the program.

Participants knew about vulture, its importance, decline causes and legal provision for use of banned drug diclofenac .

Unregistered vet practitioners committed for No Use of Diclofenac in human and cattle.

BCN touched new unregistered vet practitioners.

DLSO dang supported Nrs 30,000.00 (Thirty thousand) for this program.

Recommendation /Feedback

Need to increase vulture awareness program in school and farmers level.

Need proper monitoring of NSAIDs.

Need coordination among DLSO, DFO, DADO, BCN, Partners and other stakeholders for vulture conservation planning process.
