Pokhara Bird
Society in support of Nepal Tourism Board and Bird Conservation Nepal organized
"Pokhara Bird Fair" in Pokhara, Kaski Nepal. The three day log fair
that began from 3 July 2018 was attended by diverse professionals involved in
tourism, environment conservation, birders, students, BCN members and others.
The major highlight of the first day was "Bird Watching
Training for Tourism Professional". More than 70 seniors and budding
professionals took part in training that continued for two days. Second day
began with birding where participants gained practical knowledge on bird identification
and code and conduct of birder. Beautiful pictures of different species found
in Pokhara were displayed at the photo exhibition during the day.
Birders and nature lovers took part in the bird race on the
final day. The participants divided into two groups named "Broadbill"
and "Vulture" were assigned to sight as many birds as possible within
the time frame of an hour. Team Broadbill won the race by sighting 38 species.
The final program was organized at Hotel Barahi where ornithological and
tourism experts representing various organizations shared their knowledge on
conservation of birds, biodiversity and importance of people participation on
their conservation. "We are very delighted that we are able to conduct
such a grand event within short timeframe", said Manshanta Ghimire,
President Pokhara Bird Society. "This is the first ever Bird Fair of
Pokhara and we intend to mark it as our calendar event", he added.
